Ajay Devgn returns to theaters, bringing back IRS officer Amay Patnaik in Raid 2 and audiences are showing up! The film saw a good opening and has gone on to gross ₹120 crore plus at the end of its second weekend proving that quality storytelling and performances can still get audiences into theaters.

A Strong Opening
Raid 2 opened at ₹12.6 crore on Friday, ₹14.4 crore on Saturday, and ₹15.2 crore on Sunday giving it an opening weekend total of ₹42.2 crore. While that level of an opening is not record-breaking, it was able to build its run due to the positive word-of-mouth and continued consistent figures during the weekdays and throughout its second weekend.
As per a report by Times of India, the film earned ₹11.75 crore on its second Sunday (Day 11) for a total above ₹120 crore in India. This is quite an achievement, especially considering the amount of competition at the box office now.
What’s going well for Raid 2?
Several things are working for Raid 2:
- Ajay Devgn’s screen presence: As always, Devgn’s no-nonsense portrayal of an officer taking the war to the corrupt, lands heavy with an audience.
- Riteish Deshmukh’s dramatic fare: His character is both the emotional anchor and the dramatic crutch of the plot, contributing weight to proceedings.
- Interesting story: The story dives into corrupt politics and investigations with high stakes, which whatever you think of the story, is interesting and hard not to buy into further.
- Family movie appeal: The film’s clean, kind-of real nature appeals to all audiences, regardless of age.
Audience Reaction: Thumbs Up!
The film’s direction, dialogue, and cast performance all received praise from critics and audiences alike. Audiences appreciated how the sequel built upon the first by retaining the drama and tension while adding new stakes and new characters.
Some audiences mentioned the film dropped in speed in the second half, but the drama, emotional journeys, and character confrontations clearly made up for it.
Box Office Competition
Raid 2 competed against other significant releases, including high-octane commercial entertainers and regional films. In urban and tier 2 markets, Raid 2 performed well and held solid margins. The weekday collections were stable, which should signal to the producers that viewers were engaged in the story even past the initial excitement.
Overseas Collections
Internationally, the film was not a breakout success. By the second weekend, Raid 2 had grossed roughly $2.3 million (₹19 crore approx.) overseas. Overall, Raid 2 succeeded in the major diaspora markets, notably the UAE-GCC region and North America.
Achievings
With ₹120 crores now nonexistent, Raid 2 is now seeking the ₹150 crore mark. Should the film continue to draw audiences in its third week of collection, it just might allow Raid 2 to join the 2025 sizable successes.
For context, Raid’s (2018) lifetime collection was somewhere around ₹103 crores. Raid 2 has broken down that barrier, and has now taken another leap forward.
Final Take
Raid 2 may not have had explosive initial openings, but it has exhibited how content, performances, and audiences’ trust with strong characters can make a film a success. Ajay Devgn has another strong role, where the film is grounded in realism clearly appeals to fans.
In a time of unstable and unpredictable box office, and a much needed success for Bollywood, there is a film reminding audiences that cinema does not need VFX driven spectacle to bring them out, just an interesting story and some decent acting.
