The honor of the Constitution and democracy was saved by the decisions taken by the Speaker in the past five years, as quoted by Paswan. Chirag Paswan, who is the Union Minister, appreciated the decisions taken by the Kota MP Om Bira during his term at the Fift on Wednesday.

Union Minister Chirag Paswan speaks on the decisions made by Kota MP Om Birla as the Speaker of the previous Lok Sabha. As a member of the NDA, Birla was thereafter nominated and elected as the Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha through a motion by Modi and endorsed through a voice vote. It is noteworthy to mention that this is Birla’s second term in this prestigious post for the second year in a row.

In more specifically, Paswan described that under the dynamic leadership and wise decision-making of Birla, practices of democracy have been considerablyen expanded within the parliamentary system. Poor and impartial working and improvement of parliamentary practices and procedures to provide equal and fair treatment of all parties involved in the process are some of the main issues he has focused on during his term in office. Paswan underlined that Birla has contributed to reinforcing democratic measures in the parliamentary system of governance by making wise decisions in his chairmanship.

During his tenure, he has endeavored to provide fair and impartial trials, as well as enhance the authority and traditions of Parliament, thus providing opportunities for a fair hearing to the various groups in the legislative process. The re-election of Birla is a sign that other members of the Lok Sabha have confidence in his abilities to continue the fight for democratic principles and policies.

With his re-election for the second term in office, there is hope that his leadership will enhance the improvement of this condition towards a healthy and proper democratic environment in the parliament. Later in the day, Lok Janshakti Party’s Union Minister Chirag Paswan slammed the opposition for making it mandatory for an election to a significant parliamentary seat. He noted that in states where the opposition parties are in power, the ruling party has a majority in the assembly, while the speaker and the deputy speaker of the assembly are from the opposition party.

Paswan remarked, “When the opposition makes allegations, it’s like pointing a finger at someone else while three fingers point back at themselves. If you expect certain behavior from the ruling party at the national level, we expect the same behavior from you in the states.”

Paswan, the chief of the BJP ally Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), defended Om Birla against accusations from opposition leaders who claimed he was partial towards treasury benches during his previous tenure as Speaker. Paswan praised Birla, stating, “Decisions taken by the Speaker in the last five years have upheld the dignity of the Constitution and strengthened democracy.”

Highlighting Birla’s commitment to democratic values, Paswan argued that the decisions made under his leadership ensured fair and balanced parliamentary proceedings. He emphasized the importance of respecting the role of the Speaker in maintaining the integrity of legislative processes.

Paswan also took a jibe at the opposition for forcing an election for the Speaker’s position, noting that in many states ruled by opposition parties, both the Speaker and Deputy Speaker roles are held by members of the ruling party. This, he implied, showed a double standard in the opposition’s approach to parliamentary roles.

“Elections are over, now it is our responsibility to raise the issues of our constituencies and work to take our nation forward,” Paswan stated. His remarks underscored the need for collaboration and constructive dialogue in parliament to address the needs of the people and advance national progress.

Paswan pointed out, “There are many states where both the Speaker and Deputy Speaker posts are held by the ruling party, especially in opposition-ruled states.” He added, “When you criticize the central ruling party, remember that we expect the same standards from you at the state level.”

The opposition INDIA bloc nominated Congress MP K Suresh as their candidate for the Speaker’s post against Birla. This decision followed the government’s refusal to assure the opposition that the Deputy Speaker’s post would be given to them.
